Comment from…

Ali Campbell, Diocesan Advisor for work with children and youth

“I was seriously relieved to find out yesterday that the world is unlikely to end in an apocalyptic nightmare this year, 21st December 2012 to be precise.  My thanks to 'Material World' on Radio 4 for putting me straight on the Mayan calendar, Black Holes and colliding planets.
I then woke up this morning to the news that, according to new research just published, my brain will start to fail me in 2013 when I hit the age of 45!
Whether we think ahead, planning our lives a decade into the future, or struggle to get out of bed and face today - especially if it still looks like the middle of the night when we leave the house - I am encouraged as we start this year, by this brief statement attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson (an American philosopher), “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us”.
What ever has been in 2011 and what ever fears we have for the future (well founded or not), let us be assured of the abiding presence of Christ, in and with us, as John says in his letter, “He that is in us is greater than He that is in the World”.

As 2012 unfolds, lets take that assurance, that God goes before us and, by His Spirit lives in us - let us trust Him, delight in Him and seek to know and follow Him together.”
