Remembrance Sunday 11th November

posted 7 Nov 2012, 13:52 by Unknown user   [ updated 23 Feb 2015, 09:18 by Richard Ryder ]

Our Remembrance Sunday service will begin at The War Memorial on Lavant Village Green where we shall lay wreaths in memory of those who died in time of war. This part of our service will begin promptly at 9.30 a.m. We shall then make our way to St Mary's for the continuation of our remembrance in the service which starts at 10.00 a.m. and includes holding a silence with the rest of the nation at 11.00 a.m.

As in previous years, the cash collections at next Sunday’s services will be given to the Royal British Legion. Some of the Legion’s own envelopes will also be placed in the pews and you are invited to make use of them so that the Royal British Legion may benefit from Gift Aid.

The theme of the Sunday@Six Service will also be Remembrance. This informal service at St Nicholas' will be an opportunity for people to talk about and share experiences of military service and war, a time to remember and reflect. We would very much like to hear from anyone who is willing to share their experiences, in particular if you have memories of the bombing of Chichester. Please speak to Shirley Whincop or ring David Gibson (tel: 779432).

The annual sponsored cycle ride or walk round local churches will take place on Saturday 8th September, with the proceeds split equally between our churches and the Sussex Historic Churches Trust, who have given us grants in the past.   Sponsorship forms are at the back of both churches if you wish to take part. You can also help by manning our churches for an hour during the day, or by sponsoring those from our church taking part:  Geoffrey Thomas and Evelyn & Brian Coles are planning to do so. For further information about this very worthwhile cause check out this web site - www.rideandstrideuk.org
